New bass
It goes to show that I know nothing.
I recently bought a new bass guitar. It's a hollow bodied, five stringed Ibanez with no magnetic pickups, just piezos. It's strung with flatwound strings and all these things combine to give it a tone similar to an acoustic bass.
In my mind it would have been perfect from the drum-free, piano trio I sometimes play in. Being curious though, I took it to the rehearsal with my main band, which is much, much louder and less suited to this sort of instrument.
Wrong. It fitted perfectly and I was able to add ideas to the songs which I wouldn't have otherwise thought of. Thank goodness for open minded bandmates.
